In the film “Fifth Element”, the blue alien opera singer, Diva Plavalaguna, was played by the beautiful French actress and director, Maïwenn Le Besco.
Maïwenn Le Besco, born April 17, 1976, starred in several films as a child and teenage actress, before meeting director and producer Luc Besson in 1991. Of course, Luc Besson directed Fifth Element. Maïwenn Le Besco, at the age of 16, had Luc Besson’s daughter and dropped out of show business for several years, to live in Beverly Hills and raise their daughter.
Maïwenn Le Besco has been in several Luc Besson films, including Leon. In 1977, she played the part of the opera singing alien Diva Plavalaguna. (The actual singing was done by Albanian soprano Inva Mula-Tchako)
After her breakup with Luc Besson, Maïwenn Le Besco returned to France and resumed her career as an actress. She performed as a stand-up comedian, and was asked to re-enter the film business when several French directors saw her performance. She appeared in several notable movies, including the horror film Haute Tension (English title: High Tension), in which she starred opposite Cécile de France. In 2006, she directed her first feature film, the semi-autobiographical Pardonnez-moi. Her upcoming film Polisse is scheduled to premiere In Competition at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.
